Wedding Favor Etiquette 101

Planning your perfect wedding can be a huge undertaking. All weddings, from the small intimate weddings planned by one’s self to huge gala events that have required the help of coordinators and planners, take a lot of fore thought and preparation.

Proper and traditional wedding etiquette on things like what favors to give guests can slip through the cracks while trying to plan such an important event. However, keeping a few guidelines in mind can help you choose the perfect wedding favor that will please your guests without causing you any more unneeded stress on your big day.

Choose something that you would enjoy receiving. If the gift is not something you would find pleasure in, there is no reason to expect that your guests will. Avoid making a quick decision and choosing something you wouldn’t be delighted with just to be done with it. Gifts that fall into the theme of your wedding give the favors a bit more special tone. Try to avoid any gifts that are gender specific.

If the guest list doesn’t turn out just as planned you could be left with not enough of the right gendered gift, and an abundance of the other. Sometimes when cost is a factor it is tempting to go with favors that you give to couples instead of individuals. Although this can be very nice, it can alienate the single people and children whom are attending.

Always plan ahead with extra favors. Dealing with leftovers after the wedding is much better than realizing you have too few gifts for your guests. Make sure you count all children that will be attending the wedding in the number of favors needed. Usually children are given the same favors as adults, although it had become more acceptable to give a gift to the children that would be more enjoyable to them.

And remember, one of the best ways to make your favors memorable is by personalizing them. The favors you have chosen should reflect the personality of both the bride and groom. When you add to that monograms, names, and even special quotes the bride and groom like, you give the guest something that truly represents the specialness of the day, and lets you breathe a sigh of relief knowing your guests will be pleased with their special gift.
