Planning for a Summer Wedding

Planning for a Summer Wedding Planning for a Summer Wedding Here are some top tips when planning a summer wedding.  Keep yourself and your guests cool with a few simple ideas. Weddings are most popular during the summer months.  The weather is generally perfect with clear sunny skies and warm temperatures.  The sun is great for outdoor functions and wedding ceremonies; however it is important not to have your guests standing in the sun for too long.  If you wedding ceremony is outdoors or on the beach, guests may have to stand unprotected in the sun when waiting for you to arrive and then for your ceremony.  If you are running late, or the ceremony is quite long guests can become uncomfortable, especially if no drinks are available and no chairs provided to sit on.  Be mind-full of your guests and be accommodating with children, mothers and the elderly.  Provide some shade for guests with a simple marquee, umbrellas or natural surrounds such as tree foliage.  This will help keep your guests from the harsh summer sun. Drinks are important to have readily available for guests.  It is very common at weddings where everything has been planned very specifically, however simple provisions are forgotten. Ensure that water, cool drinks and cups are available for guests.  This will help keep guests cool and hydrated.  Nothing is worse than seeing your Grandfather become unsteady due to the heat.  Seating is important, even if it will just be for the ceremony.  Older guests can tire easily, so keep this in mind. Provide some snacks for guests, it does not need to be substantial or cost a lot of money.  Many are busy getting packed and dressed that they forget or don’t have time to eat.  Guests may be more affected with alcohol on an empty stomach. Enjoy your summer event.  Summer is a beautiful time of the year to celebrate.

Planning Your Wedding Day

Congratulations, you’re engaged to be married, you’ve set the date but where do you start with the arrangements? Here are a few simple steps to get your planning moving in the right direction: Book your wedding reception venue – The booking should be confirmed in writing. Book or secure your ceremony location – Should this be a local park, garden or beach; the local council’s permission will need to be obtained. Book your celebrant or minister – To ensure all your guest can hear those magical words, ensure they have and will bring their own P.A. System, it’s essential. Book your photographer. Here are some helpful guidelines and remember it’s your day, so don’t do all of the running around, chasing up people for photos. Prior to the wedding day – A week before the wedding day or when the guest list is finalized, make a list of family, friends and relatives’ photos that you would like shot on the day. Give each group a title, e.g. “Gregs Family” or “Work Mates”. Should there be any sensitive relationship issues and often there are, a very brief note would be appreciated by the photographer so they don’t upset anyone that will cause a scene. Appoint a liaison person for each group – Their sole responsibility is rounding up their designated charges at your request. That way you stay put, the portrait session flows smoothly, is over quicker and you and your new husband are far less stressed out. It may only save 10 or 20 minutes but most importantly, you haven’t been run ragged chasing people for photos. Remember, it’s YOUR day so designate! Family shoot- It’s a usual request from the bride and groom to want portraits with relatives and friends. Guests have usually been gathered from near and far, all decked out in their best gear, so lets shoot a few photos. The bridal party shoot- Have you got a creative idea or particular style of photographs that you would like for the bridal party? If so, let me know as I’m always open to creative ideas and we will see what can be done. Remember that 10 or 20 minutes saved? This is the time to make use of it for the bridal party shoot and help make your timetable run smoothly. As a professional Gold Coast wedding photographer I find that if the future bride and groom follow guidelines like the above, things will go much smoother for everyone on their wedding day. Wedding Reception Planning

Wedding reception planning is a very important part of the overall wedding planning. There are some issues that need to be addressed in organizing the reception for such an important event like a wedding, which requires loads of mental and financial efforts. Tables Seating generally runs for 4-8 hours. In most cases, you will have to rent the banquet hall until a certain hour (say, 11pm or 12 am), and after that time you may be able to extend your party and to pay extra for each additional hour. Generally, 4 hours are an optimal time for the reception, during which guests do not get too tired or intoxicated. Also, if there are children at the wedding, they can withstand this amount of time with little problem and not start to get restless. Master of Ceremonies  Just like children need a clown, adults need an emcee. If there is an active and artistic person in your group, who would agree to fulfill the MC functions at the wedding, that’s good luck. However, even the most energetic guests may have no kick left at the end of the celebration. It’s probably best to hire an MC who will not get tired, who will not get drunk, and who has lots of funny jokes up his/her sleeve. To select an appropriate Master of Ceremonies, it’s not enough to just look through her/his photo and video portfolio. It’s very important that you also have a good feeling about this person, which can be tested at a personal meeting. Musicians / DJ Good music is also an important part of wedding reception planning. The restaurant or the hall that you decide to rent may have their own sound system, and even their own band. You can invite a small band, a DJ, or simply record several CDs with your favorite music – it all depends on your budget and your tastes. You should have a separate CD with the melody for the first dance of the bride and the groom, or you have to discuss it with the musicians in advance. Even though the music should, first, suite the bride and the groom, it might be a good idea to have a song or two to please all ages, including children and older people. Alcohol Calculation It’s important to calculate the amount of the alcohol required for your wedding, especially if there will be no way to purchase additional drinks. Usually, champagne and wine are served at a wedding. Some of the stronger beverages served may also include: whiskey, brandy, vodka, tequila, and liquors. The following may help you in calculating the amount of alcohol and other beverages per person: – Champagne – 1 bottle for 2 persons. – Wine – 1 bottle per person. – Liquor (whiskey, brandy, vodka, tequila, etc.) – 1 bottle for 2 persons. – Mineral water and juice – 1.5-2 liters per person. Wedding reception planning, done in advance and in detail, will help you and your guests to […]

Once you get engaged, everyone starts asking questions. Have you set a date? Have you picked a venue? Where are you registering? It seems like the minute the ring slips onto your finger, you have to start wedding planning. One of the first and most important decisions you have to make is whether or not to hire a wedding planner. Unfortunately, services like that are often prohibitively expensive. But thankfully, the Internet is chock-full of solutions for thrifty brides who need some guidance with wedding planning. Picking a date and venue for the ceremony and reception has to be done ASAP. People plan weddings YEARS in advance in some cases, so if theres a certain church or garden where you absolutely have to have your wedding, contact them right away and find their next available date. And always, always, always have backups prepared. Until youve signed the deposit check, you cant be sure youll get what you wanted. Next, enlist some help. Ask the ceremony venue how many bridesmaids you can have. This is very important: some churches and other religious places limit the number of people who can be at the altar with you. If youve promised every sister, cousin, roommate and sorority sister that they can be your bridesmaid one day, you may have to write some very gracious notes in the near future. Even if you cant have all of your friends be in the wedding party, that doesnt mean they cant come to taste cakes, look at dresses, or take shots with you at your bachelorette party. If you have to break the news that she wont be donning a taffeta dress on your big day, do it gently by letting her know shell definitely be involved with pre-wedding events and fun. Wedding planning should be challenging but fun. Youve got a lot of big decisions to make, so getting the major things out of the way early (venue, date, wedding party members) will leave more time for everything else. Itll also give you a solid answer when you get the inevitable So how is the wedding planning going? question. For more information about wedding planning please visit www.marriage.com

Wedding Planning in a Recession – Big Day, Smaller Budget

In these belt tightening times should you have to down-size your dream wedding? If you are going to be a little cost conscious where should you start? For many couples, and in particular, brides-to be, years may have been spent dreaming about their Big Day. Now the big question has been asked and accepted, and you may wondering whether you should be tightening those bridal purse strings. However, you can still have your dream wedding without going totally overboard with your finances. Try some of these less obvious budgetary constraints: Engagement rings. No-one wants to look at their engagement ring and be constantly reminded of that economic down turn. Do you or your fiancee have any inherited jewels that you could utilize? Your Great Aunt Ruby’s diamond ring may look a bit tired as it is, but pop the diamond in a new setting, and hey presto! Custom jewelers can create masterpieces for you out of your family stone. Well known jewelers such as Verragio and Tacori provide semi-mount engagement rings, so you can select a setting you absolutely love, and then have your own diamond set. This can be a very cost effective approach to having your dream engagement ring. Wedding rings. If you love the look of platinum wedding rings, but would prefer a less expensive metal, then perhaps palladium wedding rings could be right for you. Palladium is from the same metal family as platinum, and like platinum it is naturally shiny and hypoallergenic. While palladium wedding rings will be a little more expensive than white gold, they will be substantially less costly than platinum. Best of all, palladium never needs to be rhodium plated to maintain the luster. Unusual venues. You may be able to find a more cost effective wedding location than a traditional reception venue. Do you know anyone who has a fabulous cottage in the country, or by a beach or lake? Take the time to check the costs of various catering companies. You will be astounded at the price differences. Limit the cast of thousands. Do you really need to invite your third cousin who you haven’t ever seen? Or your father’s bank manager? Stick to close family and friends. Striking a few people off the invite list will quickly pay for other costs such as flowers, cake, and the photographer. Explain to anyone who is miffed that you felt awkward displaying conspicuous consumption in these times. Wedding and Marriage Planning Blues – Stay Present As You Plan a Perfect Wedding and Marriage

The sheer volume of decisions to be made and details to be carried through with can be overwhelming as you plan your wedding. Often, particularly if you’re not a great detail person, this can cause stress. If your partner is on a different wave-length than you on the wedding planning, the stress can escalate. One of the things we often do in this situation is to put our heads down and bull through to the other side. We know nothing, we feel nothing, we get the tasks completed. This is dangerous. This is your wedding. You want to be present to the process of planning for your wedding and your marriage. This is your life. It’s not just “a short period and then it will be different.” It’s going to set patterns for the rest of your life together. It only takes 3 weeks to create a good habit. It takes exactly the same amount of time to start a bad one. You want to be in your feelings (that would be your real feelings, not your anxiety-induced feelings!) as you plan for your wedding. You don’t want to shut down. You want to experience each wonderful moment in the lead up to your wedding. You want to anticipate your marriage in a good way! If your feelings are resentment and irritation that your partner isn’t doing things that are moving the process along, you need to deal with those feelings (and not always with your partner.) If your feelings are resentment and irritation that your partner is worrying about what feel like ridiculous details to you, same caveats apply. Sharing your feelings is part of what marriage entails. To do that, you need to know what they are. Don’t have a lot of practice with this? Many of us grew up in homes where feelings weren’t appreciated. Keep testing. What do I feel now about this? Don’t intellectualize. Don’t justify, just figure out what you feel. When you can’t feel those things, trace back to when you shut down. What were you feeling then? If this is a common pattern, you may want to find a counselor and figure out how to get through it. Neither you nor your sweetie beloved should be riding roughshod over your feelings. You want to enjoy your wedding planning process. To do that you have to design a planning process you’ll enjoy participating in. To do that you need to know what you’re feeling. It’s going to make a much better planning process, a much more enjoyable wedding ceremony and reception, and a much stronger marriage. This is important enough that you should make promises about it in your wedding vows. And then you should live into those promises. You get extra points for practicing your wedding vows beforehand! Your marriage will be better for it! Bottom Line?: Give your relationship the chance it deserves to succeed wildly, against all odds! After all, you deserve it. Your relationship deserves it! There’s a lot […]

Wedding Planning Advice – Top Five Ways To Have A Stress-free Wedding

Stress and weddings seem to go hand in hand. There are so many small details to look after, so many decisions to make. Everyone wants a say in how you do it. So how do you get through it all with stress? It’s pretty simple. Just decide not to let yourself get stressed out. You do have a choice in the matter. How you approach the wedding planning and the people you work with will decide how your experience goes. Things can and do go wrong, however if you let it ruin the entire process, then you are the one that suffers. Cope with things the best you can and know it will work out in the end 1.  Have a Good Attitude. It’s true that life is what we make of it. If you go into wedding planning with a negative attitude, then things will go wrong. If you have a positive attitude, things tend to fall into place. A better attitude also makes people want to work with you and do their best for you. Remember, your wedding is going to be incredible and beautiful as long as you see it that way. Your guests will also pick up on your feelings, so spread a little happiness and let yourself enjoy the planning, the day and the celebration. Be sure to be kind to yourself during the planning, whether this means visiting a spa or taking a long walk to regroup. 2.  Money. More fights happen over money than anything else. It’s the source of most of the problems with weddings. One way to get over that is to figure out how much money you have to spend. Figure out your ideal budget, and then have a meeting with everyone who will be contributing. This may just be the groom or it may be the bride’s parents or the groom’s parents as well. Once you know how much money you have to spend, stay within that budget. Even if it’s not as much as you had hoped for, create the most incredible wedding with what you have. You might need to get a little more creative than usual, but make that a fun challenge. 3.  Be Kind To The Groom. While little girls dream about their weddings and plan it for years in their imaginations, men don’t. They usually don’t care what dresses the girls are wearing or what colors you choose for a color scheme. This DOES NOT mean he doesn’t care about you. He does. When he tells you he wants you to choose what will make you happy, he means it.  So be kind. If he wants to be involved, let him, but if he’d rather watch football, then set aside a little bit of time each week to get his input, then make the decisions that will make you happy. 4.  First Thought Best Thought. When you make a decision, let that be it. Don’t second-guess yourself. Once you’ve decided, then go to the […]

Planning And Preparation

We will look at nine (9) other essential steps to sales success over the next five (5) weeks. The other steps to sales success are Planning and Preparation, Prospecting, Rapport / Trust, Discovery, Solution / Presentation, Confirm, Negotiate, Action and Follow-Up. We must remember in this process of attaining sales success is that our attitude will determine pretty much the quality of life we lead. The bottom line is that we are where we are in life based on the decisions we took, our jobs, our spouses our friends our income are all the result of the choices we’ve made. We need to quit rehearsing our excuses and confront our responsibilities head on. With a positive mental attitude we are more disposed to realizing the many great opportunities around us and we are able to meet any associated challenges with energy and optimism. Now we look at Planning and Preparation another key step in the process of successful selling. How many of us find it difficult to sit down and plan the day’s activities, or to plan what we are going to do at the office for the week or month even? I dare say many of us! Success in sales depends to a great degree on planning that sales call. It’s wise to know the name of the customer, their contact details, the name of the company and what the company does. This will all help to avoid embarrassing moments like you having to ask what the company does. A recent UK study suggests that 48% of buyers confirm that customer knowledge is a powerful selling tool but is underutilized. Knowledge is a powerful differentiator. Founders of the Lonely Planet travel publishing company in Australia, Maureen and Tony Wheeler were avid planners and published their first travel guide Asia on the cheap in the early ’70s. Several titles followed in quick succession despite many challenging financial situations. One such challenge that saw the benefit of great planning was when ‘the company found a spelling mistake on the cover of their Western Europe title; they were faced with a dilemma. A decision had to be made over whether to pulp the entire print run, put a sticker on covering up the mistake or simply to admit it. Lonely Planet did one better; they inserted a bookmark which featured an imaginary scene with two warehouse guys debating the spelling of ‘western’. The resulting publicity meant the book sold out at record speed.’ Basically the benefits of planning in any business scenario are untold. Today Lonely Planet trade worldwide and turnover in excess of GBP 23.1m a year. History has long confirmed that success is created by proper planning. Successful sales entrepreneurs plan their work and work their plan. What’s the difference between planning and preparing you ask?
